WE NEED YOUR HELP TO EDUCATE A NEEDY CHILD TODAY

Little Star Learning Centre is an institution founded on Christian principles. The school is in the Githurai 45 in Kiambu County, where the demographic trend is towards a low-income earning population. Little Star Learning Centre has put in place a sponsorship program to cover school fees and related expenses for some of the students. In the academic year 2020 / 2021, the school is supporting 100 students (pre-school, primary school, and ECDE college) by paying their school fees either in full or partially. While the sponsorship program has tried its best to reach out to the most vulnerable of the populace, it is challenging to keep it running because it is mostly catered for by the school management.

The school has seen a steady increase in the number of students over the last five years due to an ever increasing and dense population in Githurai 45. The population requires quality education centers, and although there are several government-sponsored schools in Kenya, there are only two within the Githurai 45 area. This has seen most private schools in the area admitting more and more pupils every year in a bid to bridge the gap and quench the demand. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent year-long forced closure of learning institutions by the Government of Kenya, a number of private learning institutions in Githurai 45 closed down permanently, adding more pressure on the institutions that are still operational.

The school is now almost full but with majority of the parents being low-income earners, most of them have arrears in school fees. This has made it difficult to keep most of these students in class through a complete school term. It is possible to keep most of these students in the classroom, but the school management needs your help to make this a reality.

On average, a donation of $500 will educate one child in primary school for one year, covering tuition, school uniform, textbooks, and transportation. The school has setup a scholarship committee with representation from the school parents, teachers, and the school chaplain. Collectively, this committee is responsible for prioritizing needy cases amongst the students and providing general oversight on the administration of all the funds given towards providing scholarships.

Please help keep a child in the classroom this year by giving via our donation form below.  You can also learn about other ways of helping below.
